How To Unhide Hidden Folders & Files from USB Drive/Memory Card After Virus Infection

It is a common case that folders and files of computers, memory cards and flash drives are hidden and only shortcuts are visible after virus infection. In some cases, even shortcuts are not visible. USB Drive/Memory Card/Partition of the Hard Disk look empty but if you check the size of disk you will see some space of the disk is used. It means there are something in the USB Drive/Memory Card/Hard Disk partition but all of them are in the hidden state.
You don't have to be panic. There is a solution to retrieve (unhide) all files back. Here below are some steps. Just follow them carefully and enjoy once your files are back!!
  1. Scan your computer's hard disk/pen drive/memory card with Antivirus software. If Antivirus software is not installed on your computer, get one and install on your computer. You can use free version of "Avast", "Kaspersky", "Avira" etc. and cleaned the infection from your infected media type (hard disk/USB drive/memory card etc.).
  2. Insert your media type into your computer. Open Computer/My Computer and NOTE down the Drive Letter of your media. For example F: in my case.
  3. Open "Command Prompt" as an Administrator.

For Windows 7/8: Go to START menu, SEARCH box, and type "CMD" in the search box, command prompt will appear. Select Command Prompt and Click right mouse and select "Run as an administrator".

For Windows XP, go to START Menu, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, and select Command Prompt. Click right mouse and select "Run as an administrator".
  4. Then type this command:
    attrib -s -h -r F:\*.* /s /d
(replace F:\ with the drive letter you've noted earlier)
  5. Confirm that typed command is correct. If correct, hit ENTER button. Wait until the process completes. That's all, you are done!! Check your media and enjoy your files & folders back!!
Thank you.
